When talking about vitamins, what comes into your mind? Well, vitamins are essential nutrients and organic compounds needed by the human body. Even so, this does not mean that you do not have to control your vitamin consumption. How important are these vitamins then? Well, these are extremely essential to maintain the good condition of your body. It is because these will keep your body parts and organs functioning.

One is the Vitamin A. Vitamin A can be provitamin A carotenoids, retinoic acid, retinal, and retinol. One very popular form of such vitamin is the beta carotene that is commonly found in carrots. A good eye health can be promoted through Vitamin A. Humans’ retina need its retinal that will combine to a protein called opsin. Their combination results in the formation of rhodopsin. Just in case you do not know, rhodopsin is a light-absorbing molecule that is very helpful for a clearer vision. Good food sources of Vitamin A are Swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, fortified milk, shrimp, fish, liver, eggs, and beef.

What vitamins should I take? Are there some more nutrients or vitamins apart from Vitamin A? Of course, there are a lot more to go. One is the Vitamin B1 or the so-called Thiamin. Vitamin B1 belongs to the family of Vitamin B complex, and it is a water-soluble vitamin. It’s the best form is the TPP or the Thiamine Pyrophosphate, which happens to be a coenzyme needed in the catabolism of body’s amino acids as well as sugars. Good sources of Thiamin are watermelon, acorn squash, ham, soymilk, and pork chop.

Next vitamin is the ascorbic acid, or the Vitamin C. This is another water-soluble vitamin. Meaning to say, its excess amounts will go out to your body through urine. Hence, it is very important to have a continuous consumption of food items that are rich with this kind of vitamin. The best thing about Vitamin C is that you can be free from the risk of breast, esophagus, mouth, and stomach-related cancers. It also helps in the production of collagen within your body. Good sources of such vitamin are citrus fruits, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes, spinach, strawberries, broccoli, and bell pepper.

Another vitamin that you must take is the Vitamin D or the so-called Calciferol. Other people may not know it yet, but sunlight is a good natural source of Vitamin D; particularly morning sunlight. Some other good sources of Vitamin D are fortified cereals, fatty fish, fortified milk, and margarine. Maintaining a good bone health can be promoted through Vitamin D. It is simply because maintaining a good amount of phosphorus and calcium within the body is done by such vitamin.
